HUD has rental help and housing resources through the general public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher programs.

Housing Choice Voucher (frequently known as Section 8)

- The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program helps low-income households, the senior, and the disabled to afford good, safe and sanitary housing in the private market. Housing assistance is supplied through HUD on behalf of the family or person, so individuals can discover their own housing. You can utilize an HCV to pay for all or part of the rent.

Eligibility: Public Housing is limited to low-income households and individuals. A Public Housing Authority determines eligibility based on 1) yearly gross earnings, 2) whether you qualify as elderly, a person with disabilities or as a household, and 3) U.S. citizenship or qualified migration status.

To apply, call your regional Public Housing Authority. During the application procedure, a Public Housing Authority will gather details on household earnings, assets and family composition. The General Public Housing Authority will utilize this information to identify program eligibility and the amount of the housing support payment.
